Sila is a complex, socially-conscious play that deals with Inuit justice, climate change, polar bears, the Canada Coast Guard, and everything in Inuit culture from myth to day-to-day life. I led a full two rehearsals in order to help actors get into the world of the play. In addition I wrote and constructed a detailed lobby display for the production. Below you can see an in-progress display, and a close-up detail.
For the display I collaborated with the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History to include their “Arctic Faces” collection. I also reached out to students from a climate justice class to include their research in another part of the lobby in order to connect the content of the play with the active research going on at the university.
My dramaturgy for Sila was awarded a Certificate of Merit by KCACTF.
